What Are the Transport Options from Antalya Airport to Demre?
Famous for St Nicholas Church, the ancient city of Myra and Kekova, the Demre district lies about 160 km from Antalya Airport. In this article we look at the transport options along the AYT – Demre route.
Option 1: Private Transfer
The most comfortable and direct way from the airport to Demre is a private transfer; the drive takes about 2.5-3 hours. You follow the D-400 coast road towards Kaş until you reach Demre. With Duru VIP Transfer the fare is fixed at booking, the driver meets you at the airport exit with a name sign, your flight is tracked, and you are taken straight to your accommodation. If you wish, you can explore the Myra – Kekova – St Nicholas Church loop at your own pace with a chauffeured car.
Option 2: Bus (with a Change)
Buses run from the Antalya bus terminal towards Kaş or Demre, but you first have to reach the city centre from the airport, and these services are not very frequent. The total journey can reach 4-5 hours, which is awkward with luggage.
Why Demre Matters
Demre — ancient Myra — is known for its Lycian rock tombs and the church that commemorates St Nicholas. The nearby boat tours to Kekova are also very popular; the sunken city beneath the clear water is well worth seeing, and many visitors combine all three sights in a single day.
